Hello fellow technology lovers!
Happy "national computer science education" week! To celebrate we headed to our beloved computer lab to practice... coding! "What is coding?" you may ask, well, codes are what every computer program is made up of! Codes are used to make games, applications and the programs that we use daily on our tech devices! If students have a knowledge of coding, it opens the doors to so many opportunities and occupations. This week, students all over the world were challenged to spend an hour... coding! So, we logged on to http:csdweek.org, watched the inspirational video and then, started coding!
Since the computers in the lab are a bit outdated (hey, we are still very thankful for them!!) we were only able to check out a few of the tutorials, http://code.org/learn and they wrote codes to design programs and activities!
OH MAN did they have fun!!!! It was amazing to see them taking risks, using problem solving, and creativity to design their programs. Even though there were frustrations, students who quickly caught on were more than willing to lend a helping hand. I eventually just stood back and watched what was happening to my students. They were so inspired, so excited and so.... knowledgeable! I can't imagine being handed technology like this when I was their age and running with it the way that they were! It really cemented for me that we are working with a different generation! A generation that is inspired and motivated by technology! They grew up with an understanding of technology that none of us "older people" can quite understand.
I truly believe that these students will move mountains. Perhaps computer programming and code generated mountains but... mountains none the less. I hope that I will be able to provide them with the adequate opportunities to achieve their future goals.
Over and out from the desk (and computer!) of Ms. Ebenhoeh!
