Though out our "How We Express Ourselves" unit we have been learning about how cultures express themselves through stories. Last year I developed something called a "Stories Passport". This is a folder that looks like a passport (complete with individual photo and contact information page!) and contains stamped "passport pages". As we read stories and learn about different cultures, the students are filling out these passport pages. Each page has a place for the students to write:
Once all of those things have been completed, the students are able to turn in their passport page to be stamped by the "immigration authority" (me!!).
I LOVE doing stories passports with the students because they are so enthusiastic to read new stories and develop and understanding and open-mindedness towards other cultures!
If you have a story to share please contact me through e-mail or skype! We would love to add your story to our passports!
- the continent where the story takes place
- the country where the story takes place
- the title, author, and genre of the book/story
- a summary of the story
- what they learned about the culture through the story
- the location of the country on a map
- facts that they have researched about that country
